Back At The Beginning

As the saying goes “No matter how hard the past is, you can always begin again.” In my case I've certainly taken a leave of absence from this health game. Not all attributed to my own doing, however sometimes life does get in the way. I want to be honest and upfront that falling off the wagon is something we all experience!

To give some context of what life has been like there's been an injury, knee surgery, moved countries, locked down in said country due to that terrible C word and unable to return to Australia, bought land and built a house all whilst being stuck overseas. Sold a business, moved back to Australia to 7 hectares of farm land on the beautiful Sunshine Coast and have spent a hell of a lot of time getting the property sorted. So it's fair to say that the health and fitness side of my life needed to take a bit of a back seat.

Yes The Weight Returned

Though the issues of my knee and the surgery that followed has been a process to get back to normality. ie lots of rehab, far less movement than previous and the mental frustration from not being able to move like before has hindered all of my previous progress. Poor eating habits also crept their way back into my life and the numbers on the scale have increased to the tune of 25kg. (shit happens right?!?!)

Now the number on a scale is not the be all and end all. For me however struggling to go for a run, exercise or move how I used to is a huge de-motivator that leads to depression eating, drinking more (you get the drift)! I'm not unhappy but I know I don't feel great in myself and thats where the drive has hit me to make change.

Getting My Mojo Back

It's taken the best part of 12months to get myself mentally back into a position where I want to workout and want to get back into running marathons again. Which after my knee injury I didn't know if it was something that I could've achieved again. But after enjoying some much needed time away and focusing on building a very self sustainable lifestyle I've finally reached a stage mentally where it's time to put the focus and energy back on myself. (whilst also balancing a few other things in the pipeline).

There's things that I wish to do once again that used to come so easily and I'm gunning to get back there. I'm gunning for it because I know how it makes me feel and it's not for anyone else except myself. I know I'm not the only person that has felt or feels like this and who knows, maybe even just one person that reads this may help them on their path or journey.

No Matter How Hard The Past Is, You Can Also Begin Again

Everything takes time and acceptance. Acceptance is something I've always struggled with, however being able to accept where I currently am but also be grateful for what has been really good over the past 3 years has helped to prepare me mentally to get back on my fitness journey.

So here's to it... Day 1 again... but hey, like I said earlier Shit Happens right? The last few years has been a hell of journey in itself and here's to the next chapter. So if you want it, go and get it. If you want it, make the change for yourself and for what you desire because no one else can get you there unless you want it bad enough to create the changes required. (Thats for anything you want to achieve in your life, not just from a fitness perspective).

I'll be dropping regular updates about where I'm at, what I'm doing and how things are going. Feel free to read and follow along! If you have any specifics you'd like to hear about let me know below in the comments!

Cheers Brenton :)

About the author

There was a time I wasn't happy, I lacked self confidence and had some serious "trying to live up to everyone" else's standards of my body. I got real, changed my focus and the rest fell into place. You can have that too! Let me show you how.. because it's your time to feel great and not let your body define who you are!
